L’ormai ricorrente appuntamento con i brevetti che vedono protagonista il tanto discusso Surface Phone, progetto che internamente a Microsoft viene identificato come “Andromeda”, in questa occasione vede al centro un possibile device di tipo minilaptop.
Dalle immagini svelate in rete si nota come il prossimo Surface Andromeda, oltre ad essere un dispositivo pieghevole con una struttura apribile in due porzioni, potrebbe anche assumere le sembianze di un piccolo laptop touch.
Il nuovo brevetto, identificato come “Determinative hinge”, presenta anche una tastiera e un trackpad posizionati nel secondo display che compone Andromeda e che, una volta aperto con entrambe le sezioni display unite, diventerebbe in tutto e per tutto un tablet.
Nel dettaglio il brevetto registrato si sofferma sulla particolare cerniera che consentirebbe al dispositivo di assumere la classica struttura laptop grazie all’angolo di 135° in cui sarebbe posizionato il display superiore.
La caratteristica cerniera, inoltre, impedirebbe al display di ondulare mantenendo una posizione rigida e ferma. Nello stesso modo, aprendo la sezione superiore fino a 180°, si otterrebbe la configurazione tablet.
Non si può non notare come in Microsoft, ancora una volta, siano soprattutto le “cerniere” ad essere protagoniste di particolari studi e brevetti, non a caso la celebre “Fulcrum Hinge” di Surface Book e Surface Book 2 sembra abbia fatto scuola.
Il brevetto risale al mese di Settembre del 2016 e Microsoft fornisce una dettagliata descrizione in proposito:
“The present concepts relate to devices, such as computing devices employing determinative hinge assemblies that can rotationally secure first and second device portions relative to a first hinge axis that relates to the first portion and a second hinge axis that relates to the second portion. The determinative hinge assembly can define which angles of rotation occur relative to which hinge axis. For instance, 0 to 90 degree rotation may occur around one of the hinge axes, 91-270 degrees may occur around the other hinge axis, and 271 to 360 may occur around the former hinge axis, for example. Traditionally, at certain angles of rotation, the first and second portions might contact one another. This contact can damage elements of either or both of the first and second portions. The determinative hinge assembly can solve this issue by allowing the first and second portions to move away from one another during this contact to lessen forces imparted on the first and second portions (e.g., the determinative hinge assembly can function as the compliant member in the system). The determinative hinge assembly can accomplish this movement with a force-relief sub-assembly. The force-relief sub-assembly can flex in a manner that allows the first and second portions to move slightly away from one another proximate to the hinge axis during contact and to return when contact ceases.”
Si ricorda che Surface Phone – Andromeda secondo molte indiscrezioni dovrebbe essere presentato nel corso di quest’anno e dovrebbe esordire con a bordo la nuova interfaccia C-Shell adattabile di Windows 10 per consentire al dispositivo un utilizzo in modalità tablet, smartphone e minipc. La possibilità di eseguire le applicazioni Win32 sarà un’altra prerogativa unica di questo device anche se non è chiaro se questa funzione sarà disponibile fin dal momento del lancio o con un aggiornamento successivo.
Ormai risulta comunque chiaro che date le peculiarità del prossimo dispositivo mobile di Microsoft il futuro Surface Andromeda avrà nell’utenza Business il principale target di riferimento.
