Nelle scorse ore Microsoft ha annunciato che, a partire dal prossimo ottobre 2016 Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 e Windows Server 2012 R2 riceveranno solamente un aggiornamento cumulativo mensile.
Ecco le dichiarazioni ufficiali:
The Monthly Rollup will be published to Windows Update (WU), WSUS, SCCM, and the Microsoft Update Catalog. Each month’s rollup will supersede the previous month’s rollup, so there will always be only one update required for your Windows PCs to get current. i.e. a Monthly Rollup in October 2016 will include all updates for October, while November 2016 will include October and November updates, and so on. Devices that have this rollup installed from Windows Update or WSUS will utilize express packages, keeping the monthly download size small.
In questo modo, il team Microsoft realizzerà un solo aggiornamento cumulativo piuttosto che tanti piccoli aggiornamenti. Inoltre, per gli utenti che hanno saltato qualche aggiornamento, verrà reso pubblico solo l’aggiornamento in corso, in modo tale da rimanere sempre aggiornati all’ultima versione.
Infine, verrà rilasciato un aggiornamento Security-only che avrà solo ed esclusivamente gli aggiornamenti di sicurezza relativi al mese in corso. A differenza degli aggiornamenti cumulativi però, tale aggiornamento non verrà rilasciato in Windows Update, ma solamente in WSUS, in SCCM e nel Microsoft Update Catalog.
